Team Tuesday: Meet our Lending Director in Spain - Juan Galobart Juste

Where did you begin your career?

I began my career in finance as an intern with Santander Bank in the Leicester University branch. This was during the summer of my second university year. My main duties during those three months included informing new students about the benefits of opening a debit/credit account with Santander. I also helped out with welcome events and conducted surveys.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

The best investment is the one that requires you less attention and time; because of those you can have many”.

I will say that I like dynamism in my professional life. This statement motivated me to explore debt investment via direct lending, enabling me to participate in multiple transactions simultaneously.

What tips would you give to someone starting in your profession?

Be a good person and always keep your values in mind so you can grow your professional life in parallel to your personal life. I like this one from Ray Dalio: “Stay curious and keep learning. The world is constantly evolving, and so should you.”

What is your greatest professional achievement to date?

Exiting a debt position where the asset collateral has been completely depleted, with no possibility of repayment from the borrower.

We managed to find a buyer for the asset, even though the buyer will have to claim against the insurance company and rebuild the full asset.

Tell us something people may not know about you

I was born in Madrid and consider it luck, but I like to go to the countryside regularly to recharge the batteries. I like to ride trial bikes and spend time with family to get away from the hustle and bustle.
