Team Tuesday: Meet our Senior Lending Manager in Spain, Javier Redondo
Where did you begin your career?
“Although I am an engineer, I was always drawn to finance.
I started with an internship in France before spending a few months at Banco Santander in Spain.
From there, I joined Irea Corporate Finance (now part of Colliers International), where I spent five years working on M&A transactions, debt portfolios (REOs and NPLs), real estate corporate restructurings, and other advisory projects.”
What is the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
“The CEO who mentored me at Irea gave me a simple but powerful piece of advice: always be empathetic.
Whether you’re in front of an investment committee or negotiating with a client, empathy allows you to understand everyone’s needs and build real trust.
It makes you not only a better professional, but a better person.”
What tips would you give to someone starting in your profession?
“Stay curious and maintain a global perspective.
Master the details, stay up to date with industry and market trends, and surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you to grow every day.”
What is your greatest professional achievement to date?
“It’s all part of an ongoing journey, but I’m proud to have closed complex transactions totalling over €30 billion in advised or invested deals, mentored rising professionals, and earned the trust of international investors to commit capital to Spain.
That trust and responsibility are both something I value deeply.”
Tell us something people may not know about you
“I was born and raised in a small town in Spain called Cuenca, where I grew up surrounded by nature.
I moved to Madrid at 17 to study engineering. Whenever I can, I return to the mountains of my hometown to recharge -through hiking, biking, or just being there.
Lately, I’ve also turned to yoga and meditation as ways to stay grounded and focused.”
